Local Businesses, Time To Evolve.
Businesses come and go, much like the natural rhythm of life. This natural cycle is essential for evolution because, in life, one generation doesn’t merely replace the previous one; it brings innovation in one form or another. Yet, this concept, while simple and obvious, appears to be overlooked when entrepreneurs decide to open businesses like restaurants, coffee shops, salons, and the like.
For instance, there was a typical small coffee shop on the corner that had been serving its customers for a few years until it had to close its doors. The coffee was good, offering everything you’d expect from a classic coffee shop, but they couldn’t sustain it any longer. Just a week after their closure, another coffee shop was set to open in its place, essentially taking the previous one’s spot. Yes, the design was different, but the concept remained largely the same. The question that arises is, what has truly changed? If you think about it, from the perspective of a local resident, not much has changed. There was a coffee shop, and now there’s a coffee shop.
In the city, there are thousands of coffee shops, restaurants, and massage parlors, and what sets them apart are the variables: the type of coffee beans they use, their cuisine, or the range of massages they offer. Nevertheless, they all adhere to the general business models of their respective industries. For example, when you step into a coffee shop, you have certain expectations about what you’ll find there. This conformity to established models makes sense since the reason they’ve become “industry standards” is that they’ve proven themselves over time. People have grown accustomed to these models and have specific expectations when they hear the terms coffee shop, restaurant, nail salon, and so on.
However, this notion of an “industry standard” has, in a way, become a rigid template that everyone adheres to without daring to challenge. Maybe they prefer not to rock the boat, opting for a predictable, steady income-generating business. But if you’re already committed to putting in the effort, investing time, money, and making sacrifices to open a new business, why not at least try something different?
It is definitely something to consider and think about, but don’t overanalyze it either. Sometimes, you can leverage the tools already at your disposal. The beauty is, it doesn’t have to come at a significant cost, if any. Ultimately, it’s about your approach and the level of creativity. For instance, even by implementing Dozo, you’re already taking a step forward. It offers a playground of tools that you can use to craft your unique ecosystem.
